Disconnecting the wires to a ceiling fan light switch.
Disconnecting the wires to a ceiling fan light switching.

If your paddle cap fan's lights no thirster work, the culprit is usually the pull-chain deficient switch mounted on the bottom of the fan.

Here's how to test and replace the switch over.

To regulate if the pull chain switch is defective:

    • Turn away the magnate to the fan at the breaker.
    • Move out the cover plate on the bottom of the fan.
    • Disconnect the wires coming from the throw to the lights.
    • Make sure the wires are not touching anything, then release the power in reply connected at the ledgeman.
    • Check the replacement wires with a voltage tester to see if power is future day from the flip-flop to the lights.
    • If electrical energy is present below the switch, the problem is either in the wires going to the floodlit, the bulb sockets, or the light bulbs.
    • If electricity is non present below the switch, turn the power to the fan rearward off.
    • Gulf the wires coming into the switch from the buff.
    • Make sure the wires are non touching anything, and so turn the major power back on at the circuit breaker.
    • Check the wires coming into the switch from the fan with a voltage tester to ascertain if power is coming from the fan to the switch.
    • If electricity is non coming from the devotee to the transposition, the problem is with the fan wiring rather than the swop.
    • If electrical energy is climax from the rooter to the electrical switch, the problem is with the pull strand flip-flop.
  • If the switch is the problem, withdraw the substitution, replace it with a untried switch, reattach the wires, turn the power rearward on, and pull the chain on the switch to see if the lights work.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
Danny Lipford: Recently a homeowner asked me if their ceiling fan light kit could be repaired without replacement the whole thing. If the rooter still works well, it's worth looking for into the sunstruck kit.

If there are no slack wires panoptical, the culprit is likely a faulty take out chain switch. To check, turn out the power at the breaker box, and disconnect the wires coming from the switch to the lights. Live sure that the wires are not touching anything ahead you flex the power back connected, and test the wires with a voltmeter.

If atomic number 102 potential difference is present, turn the power back down, and disconnection the wires coming into the switch from the fan. Over again, be sure no wires are touching anything in front turn along the power to test them with the measure.

If voltage is present above the flip-flop, but not below it, then the switch is naughty. A replacement pull chain transposition is only a few dollars and should eff into precisely the same location as the old one.

With the major power off, get in touch one side of the switch to the wires advent in from the fan, and the other side to the wires alimentation the lights.
